On Valentine’s Night, our beloved Maddie will be making sweet and savory snacks to go along with vermouth spritz and blush-colored wine. Maddie is a dear friend of the shop and a modern-day renaissance woman: not only is she a talented baker of 15 years and the official patron saint of music, but she weaves her own dinner napkins and built a brick pizza oven and pottery kiln in her backyard! Maddie hosted her first pop-up here last Valentine’s Day and it was true love (see cute photos below). What better way to resist the Hallmark holiday! Let’s celebrate lovers and welcome California springtime.

My friends Jamie and Mico run a mobile seafood restaurant in Chicago called MotorShucker. As far as I remember, it started with them shucking oysters off the back off a motorcycle which they would drive all over Chicago during the long summers, playing music and pouring out wines which our mutual friend Cub helped to curate. In the waning days of Covid, when the wine industry started to emerge from its long slumber, there wasn’t a wine party in Chicago without these guys slinging oysters and other oceanic goodies.
They are in town for the long weekend, so it seemed like a perfect time to bring that Chicago energy to Oakland. They have expanded their menu over the years, to include some other snacks, as well as some large format party platters that are perfect for a group of three or five. We will put together an appropriate glass list, and get into the cellar to find some special bottles.
